Origin
The Monstera minima, also known as the Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, is a tropical climbing plant originally from Thailand and Malaysia. This vine is part of the Araceae family and originates from a warm and humid climate, where it grows in the shadow of larger trees and plants.
Characteristics
The Monstera minima is characterised by its elongated and deeply incised leaves, which, although smaller than more well-known Monstera species, display the same unique holes and slits. The plant can grow up to about 150cm high and attaches itself to objects and surfaces during growth. The plant can be kept both indoors and outdoors, although it needs to be protected from heavy frost when kept outside.
Care
In terms of care, the Monstera minima needs a bright place, but no direct sunlight. Watering is recommended when the soil is almost completely dry - excessive watering can cause root rot. The plant should best be watered with a penetrating watering session, allowing the water to flow through the drainage holes in the pot. The Monstera minima thrives best at a room temperature between 18-27 °C. Plant food is recommended during the growing period, from spring to autumn.
