Origin
The Zamia furfuracea, also known as the Cardboard Palm, has its origin in southeastern Mexico. Here, the plant primarily grows in the coastal areas of Veracruz. The plant belongs to the family of the Zamiliaceae and originated in the Palaeoperiod.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Zamia furfuracea are the thick, leathery leaves that grow from a strong, central trunk. The leaves are dark green in colour and reach a length of 50 to 150 cm. They have a slight gloss and a curved shape, which makes them resemble a palm leaf, hence the nickname 'Cardboard Palm'. The plant produces relatively large, female cones that have a reddish-brown hue.

Care
For the care of the Zamia furfuracea, it is important to know that the plant likes a sunny to semi-shaded spot. It cannot cope well with temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius and should be kept indoors in colder climates. The soil must be well-drained. In addition, it is recommended to water the plant moderately to sparingly, as it is a succulent that is well adapted to drier conditions. Although the Zamia furfuracea is not a fast grower, it can last for many years with the right care and conditions.
