Origin
The Begonia 'Grace' belongs to the Elatior group of begonias, a popular group of begonias, which has its origins in the tropical and subtropical areas of South America, Africa and South Asia, among others. These plants have been loved in Europe since the 17th century and are characterised by their striking flowering habit and attractive leaves. This specific cultivar, the 'Grace' has been selectively bred for its distinctive flowers and leaf colour.
Characteristics
The Begonia Elatior 'Grace' is characterised by its double flowers, which have a warm red colour. These flowers can bloom all year round, as far as conditions allow. The plant itself is characterised by green leaves with a slightly glossy finish, which make the graceful flowers stand out even more. The Begonia 'Grace' is a relatively compact plant, making it ideal for cultivation in pots or containers. Nevertheless, it can grow to a mature height of about 30-40 centimetres.
Care
The care of the Begonia Elatior 'Grace' requires some attention. In general, the plant does best in evenly moist but well-draining soil and in a place with indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight could potentially burn the leaves. Overwatering can lead to rot, so it is better to let the soil dry out a bit between watering. During the flowering periods, regular feeding with a balanced plant food can promote blooming. It is important to remove dead or wilted flowers to encourage the plant to continue blooming.
