Origin
Dypsis lutescens, also known as Areca palm, originates from eastern Madagascar. In its natural habitat, this plant grows in tropical rainforests. The species is found in regions with a warm and humid climate. In other parts of the world, Dypsis lutescens is mainly used as an indoor and ornamental plant.
Characteristics
Dypsis lutescens can reach a height of 210 to 250 centimetres indoors. It is a multi-trunk palm with yellow-green stems and finely feathered leaves. The leaves are long and gracefully arching. Young shoots display a fresh green colour, while older parts are a deeper green.
Care
Dypsis lutescens prefers a bright spot with indirect sunlight. The plant requires moderately moist potting soil. Regular misting of the foliage helps maintain leaf quality. During the growing season, fertiliser can be added to the watering.
