Origin
The Caryota mitis originates from Southeast Asia and parts of India. This species naturally occurs in tropical forests and humid areas, often growing in shaded, sheltered environments. Caryota mitis has become established as an ornamental plant in various tropical regions.

Characteristics
Caryota mitis is a multi-trunked palm species that can reach up to around five metres in height in its natural habitat. The leaves of the plant are bipinnate and have a distinctive shape reminiscent of a fish’s tail. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and can grow to almost two metres in length. The inflorescence consists of striking, pendulous clusters with small white flowers. After flowering, round fruits develop, ranging in colour from green to reddish-purple.

Care
Caryota mitis requires an airy and well-draining potting soil. The plant thrives best with high humidity and a constant temperature above 15 degrees Celsius. Regular watering is necessary, keeping the soil moist but without allowing water to stand. The plant prefers a location with plenty of indirect light. Fertilisation is recommended during the growing period in spring and summer.
