Livistona chinensis (400-500)
Stem
4LICHRS70
Origin
The Livistona chinensis originates from East Asia. Its native range includes the southern parts of China, Taiwan, and southern Japan. The species also occurs on several islands near these regions. The palm is regularly introduced to tropical and subtropical areas elsewhere in the world.
Characteristics
Livistona chinensis is a slow grower and belongs to the group of fan palms. The leaves are deeply divided and fan-shaped, displaying a striking light green to dark green colour. The trunk is slender and upright, and can reach a considerable height over time. Older specimens develop a rough, fibrous trunk and a characteristic crown of leaves. Typical features include the long, hanging leaf tips and the spiny leaf stems.
Care
Livistona chinensis thrives best in moderate to high humidity. The species tolerates light but not prolonged exposure to direct, intense sunlight. The palm requires a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Regular watering is necessary, taking care to avoid a waterlogged root base. Fertilisation during the growing season can support healthy development.
