Origin
The Phoenix roebelenii, also known as the Pygmy Date Palm, is a plant species originally from Southeast Asia, particularly Laos and Vietnam. Here, the plant grows wild along rivers and streams. The species is named after the botanist Carl Roebelen who first described the plant in the late 19th century.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Phoenix roebelenii are the long, slender trunks covered with old leaf bases. From these trunks also grow the typical fine, feathered leaves that give the plant an elegant appearance. The plant does not grow very tall and has a slow growth rate. The Phoenix roebelenii also bears fruit, these resemble small dates but are not edible for humans.

Care
In terms of care, the Phoenix roebelenii is quite an easy plant. The plant likes a light position, but not direct sunlight. During the growth period, the Phoenix roebelenii needs water regularly, but it is important to prevent the roots from standing in water. The water supply can be reduced in winter. Furthermore, this plant benefits from occasional feeding, in the form of a general, commercially available, plant food.
