Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei originates from the mountainous regions of Central and East Asia, particularly China. This palm species is mainly found in temperate climates and grows in upland hills and forests. It has been cultivated in China and Japan for centuries, and since the nineteenth century, Trachycarpus fortunei has also been widely planted throughout Europe.

Characteristics
Trachycarpus fortunei is a hardy palm with an upright trunk covered with fibrous remains of old leaf stalks. The leaves are large, palmate and fan-shaped, consisting of deeply cut segments. Depending on its location and growing conditions, this palm can reach a height of 10 to 12 metres. The leaves are dark green on the upper surface and grey-green underneath. In summer, the plant produces yellow flowers that appear in pendulous clusters.

Care
Trachycarpus fortunei grows best in well-drained soil with sufficient nutrients. The plant prefers a position with plenty of light but can also tolerate partial shade. During extended dry periods, additional watering is necessary to prevent dehydration. This palm is resistant to temperatures as low as approximately -15 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for a temperate climate. Regular removal of dead leaves helps maintain the plant’s tidy appearance.
