Trachycarpus fortunei (200-260)
Multi stem
5TRFOMS88
Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese fan palm, originates from the mountainous region of Asia. Initially, the plant is native to China, Northern India, Bhutan, and Myanmar. This makes the Trachycarpus fortunei exceptionally resistant to colder temperatures compared to many other varieties of palm trees.
Characteristics
The Trachycarpus fortunei is an evergreen, hardy palm that can grow up to 12 meters tall. The hand-shaped, deeply cut leaves are up to 1 meter in diameter and attract the eye with rich, dark green colours. The trunk is characterised by its fibrous texture, giving the plant its distinctive appearance. In summer, the plant produces striking, cream-coloured flowers.
Care
The Trachycarpus fortunei requires relatively little care and thrives well in a wide range of situations. A location in the sun or partial shade is recommended. The plant tolerates virtually any soil type, provided it is well-drained. Watering is important, particularly during dry periods, but over-watering should be avoided to prevent root rot. It is also recommended to protect the plant against severe frost during winter.
