Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese fan palm, originally hails from the mountainous regions of Asia, specifically areas of China and India. Due to its exceptional frost resistance, this palm is the most northern occurring palm in the world, originating from a mild to cold climate.

Characteristics
The Trachycarpus fortunei is a slow-growing evergreen palm tree that can reach heights of 10 to 20 metres at maturity. The fibre-covered trunk is usually solitary, but multiple trunks can also grow from the base. The palm leaves are fan-shaped, large, and have long, thorny petioles. The flowers of this palm range from yellow to light purple and are followed by round fruits that take on a blue-black hue when ripe.

Care
Despite its origins from cold regions, the Trachycarpus fortunei can survive well in both full sun and partial shade, but it must be protected from harsh winds. It needs well-drained soil, preferably loamy or sandy and requires regular but moderate watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot. While the palm is quite tolerant of poor soil, it performs best with regular feeding, especially during the growing season.
