Trachycarpus wagnerianus
Stem (60-70)
5TRWARS56
Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese fan palm, has its origin in the Far East. Its distribution area includes parts of China, India, Myanmar and Japan, mainly in mountainous regions. The plant has adapted to harsh winters and can survive well in various climates.
Characteristics
The Trachycarpus fortunei can reach a height of 10 to 12 meters and is distinguished by its slender, fibrous trunk. The leaves of the plant form a round crown and have the shape of a fan, hence the name 'fan palm'. Each leaf is deeply split almost to the base, which results in separated leaf segments creating a fan-shaped pattern. The plant produces small, yellow flowers and the fruits are small, round, blue-black drupes.
Care
For the care of the Trachycarpus fortunei, it is important to know that the plant thrives well in both sun and shade and is resistant to cold. Ideally, the plant should be planted in well-drained soil, as it does not cope well with waterlogging. Although the Trachycarpus fortunei requires little upkeep, regular fertilisation can benefit the overall health and appearance of the plant. Pruning is generally not necessary, unless it involves removing dead leaves to keep the plant looking well-kept.
