Origin
The Philodendron 'Imperial Red', also known under the name Philodendron erubescens 'Red Emerald', originates from Central and South America. It's an exotic, fast-growing plant that's accustomed to warm, tropical conditions.

Characteristics
The Philodendron 'Imperial Red' is known for its broad, glossy leaves that have an intense red colour. These leaves have a leathery texture, are heart-shaped, and can easily reach a length of 60 centimetres. The older the plant gets, the darker the leaves become.

Care
This plant needs ample light, but not direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves. The Philodendron 'Imperial Red' prefers a consistently warm temperature and high humidity, a characteristic of its tropical origin. Regular watering is essential, but be cautious of stagnant water around the roots, as this can cause root rot. It's advisable to feed the plant once a month with a liquid fertiliser that's high in nitrogen. Additional, but not directly necessary, care can include regularly wiping the leaves to remove dust, allowing the plant to breathe.
