Origin
The Philodendron 'Congo Red' belongs to the Araceae family and is a hybrid variety. The original Philodendron species originate from the tropical rainforests of South America. The 'Congo Red' was developed by growers and does not occur in the wild. This ornamental plant is primarily cultivated as a houseplant.

Characteristics
Philodendron 'Congo Red' is distinguished by its glossy, large leaves with a red to deep red colour. The leaves are oval-shaped and firm in texture. The plant has a compact growth habit and typically reaches a height of 60 to 90 centimetres. New leaves often display a deep red hue which gradually turns dark green. The petioles are sturdy and often tinged with red.

Care
For optimal growth, Philodendron 'Congo Red' prefers a bright spot out of direct sunlight. A constant temperature between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius is ideal. The plant requires moderately moist potting soil that is well-draining. Too much or too little water can impede growth. Regularly cleaning the leaves will help maintain its attractive appearance.
