Origin
The Acer pal. diss. 'Inaba-shidare', also known as the Japanese maple, has its origin in East Asia, specifically in Japan. Here, the plant grows in forests and on mountain slopes, frequently contributing to the colourful autumn landscape. Since the plant performs remarkably well in Japanese gardens, bursting with brilliant colours in the autumn, it has been exported to many other parts of the world.

Characteristics
The Acer pal. diss. 'Inaba-shidare' distinguishes itself by its striking physical characteristics. It is a medium-sized shrub or small tree, able to reach a height of up to 4 metres. Particularly notable is its beautiful, deeply incised foliage which is red in colour throughout the spring and summer, but takes on a lovely purple-red hue in the autumn. The leaves are palmate, with seven to eleven lobes and reach a length of 5 to 12 cm. Additionally, the plant has hanging branches.

Care
The care of the Acer pal. diss. 'Inaba-shidare' demands some attention. The plant has a preference for well-draining soil and partial shade, but can also be placed in full sun provided it is given enough water. To maintain the acidic soil that the 'Inaba-shidare' prefers, it may be necessary to add a little garden compost or leaf mould annually. It is advisable to provide the plant with enough water during dry periods. Pruning is usually not necessary unless it is to maintain the shape or remove dead branches.
