Origin
Ligustrum japonicum originates from Japan and Korea, and belongs to the olive family (Oleaceae). Since the nineteenth century, the plant has been used in Europe as an ornamental shrub. In the wild, Ligustrum japonicum is mainly found in wooded areas.

Characteristics
Ligustrum japonicum is an evergreen shrub with leathery, glossy leaves. The plant typically reaches a height of 2 to 4 metres. In summer, it produces white, fragrant flower clusters. Later, small black berries appear on the plant.

Care
Ligustrum japonicum grows best in a sunny to semi-shaded position. The species tolerates various soil types, provided they are well-draining. Regular pruning encourages compact growth. The plant is resistant to urban conditions and air pollution.
