Origin
The Olea europaea, better known as the olive tree, has its roots in the east of the Mediterranean region. This tree was one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans, over 7000 years ago. In addition to its historical and cultural value, the plant has had a significant economic significance for the region, primarily through the production of olive oil.

Characteristics
The Olea europaea is an evergreen tree that can reach a height of 10 to 20 metres. It has a characteristic gnarled trunk and small silvery-green leaves. The tree produces small, white flowers, followed by the well-known fruit, the olive. The Olea europaea is known for its resistance to drought, heat and wind, making it well suited to the typical Mediterranean climate.

Care
The olive tree requires a sunny and warm location to grow well. It thrives well in well-draining, chalky soil. The soil must be dry, as the tree is sensitive to waterlogging. Although it is resistant to drought, it does need regular watering in the summer. Pruning is usually not necessary, unless you want to limit the size of the tree or influence its appearance. In severe frost, it is recommended to protect the plant, as the tree is not hardy.
