Origin
The Toona sinensis ‘Flamingo’, also known as the Chinese Mahogany, originated in East Asia. The plant grows wild in countries such as China, Korea, and India. It is a fast-growing, deciduous tree that belongs to the Meliaceae family.

Characteristics
The Toona sinensis ‘Flamingo’ stands out with its striking pink to red-white leaves that change colour to green later in the season. It is a medium-sized tree that can ultimately reach a height of about 20 to 25 meters. The flowers of the Toona sinensis ‘Flamingo’ are small, white and inconspicuous, but strongly scented. They typically appear around July. The leaf has a feathery composition and is one of the larger leaves of deciduous trees within Europe.

Care
The Toona sinensis 'Flamingo' requires little maintenance. The tree grows best in full sun or partial shade and in well-drained soil. Excessive water can cause root rot, so a type of soil that drains excess water well is recommended. During dry periods, additional watering may be necessary. If the tree becomes too large, it can be pruned in early spring. It is important that all pruning wounds are well treated to prevent diseases.
