Origin
The Primula Acaulis Grp, also known as the Primrose, is a popular garden plant originally from the temperate regions of Europe, Asia and North America. This early-flowering plant is seen as a sign of spring.
Characteristics
The Primula is characterised by the bright, often mixed colours of the flowers, ranging from white, yellow, pink, red to blue. They are perennial, deciduous plants with a polyclonal growth habit. The leaves are lung-shaped, fleshy and often have a wavy edge. The flowers sit on short stems above the rosette of leaves and form umbels of five to fifteen pieces.
Care
Primulas prefer a place in semi-shade or shade. They like a well-draining, humus-rich soil and regular watering. In drier periods, extra watering is necessary. Removing faded flowers stimulates the production of new flowers. In winter, the plants are frost-sensitive and may need protection against severe frost. This could be done, for example, by covering the plant with straw or a winter cover.
