Origin
The Luzula sylvatica, also known as the greater woodrush, is a perennial plant species native to Europe. The plant prefers to grow in forests and heathlands and is adapted to various climatic conditions, although it thrives best in a temperate climate.

Characteristics
The Luzula sylvatica can reach a height of 10 to 50 centimetres and is known for its striking grass-like leaves. These leaves are dark green in colour and have a shiny and leathery appearance. The flowers of the Luzula sylvatica are small and brown and form compact clusters at the top of the stems. The fruit of the plant are shiny brown seeds.

Care
Luzula sylvatica is a low-maintenance plant that has few specific environmental requirements. The plant prefers semi-shade or shady places and grows well in normal to moist garden soil. It favours nutrient-rich, well-draining soil, but is tolerant of sandy, loamy and clay soils. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods. Although the Luzula sylvatica is hardy in winter, it can benefit from some protection against extreme winter conditions.
