Origin
The Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila', also known as pampas grass, originates from the south of South America. This is where the plant is found in countries such as Argentina, Chile and Brazil. It belongs to the grass family Poaceae and the genus Cortaderia.

Characteristics
The Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila' is a stately plant that can grow between 1.2 and 1.5 meters high, but in ideal conditions a height of up to 3 meters can be achieved. The leaves of the plant are sharp and have a blue-green colour. The most striking characteristic of the plant are the rich white, silver-like plumes that grow on long, sturdy stems. These plumes can grow up to 60 cm long and often appear in late summer or early autumn.

Care
For the care of the Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila', it is important that the plant has enough space to grow. It needs a sunny to semi-shade location and is very drought tolerant. The plant does not like wet feet, so well-draining soil is essential. To maintain the beauty of the plumes, it is recommended to prune the plant back to about 20 to 30 cm above the ground in the spring.
