F00004078
Origin
The Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron', also known as the Japanese blood grass, is a striking ornamental grass species whose origin is in East Asia. More specifically, this plant species comes from Japan, where it is found in the wild.
Characteristics
The Japanese blood grass is special because of its deep red colour, which becomes more intense as the summer season progresses. The plant reaches a height of about 60 centimetres and blooms from July to September with inconspicuous, cylindrical inflorescences. The leaves are long, narrow and sharp at the edges, giving the plant a spectacular appearance.
Care
In caring for the Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron', it is important to know that the plant prefers full sun and well-draining soil. The soil should be slightly moist, but waterlogging must be avoided. Winter protection is recommended in case of severe frost to keep the plant in optimal condition. Regular pruning in the spring promotes healthy, colourful growth.
