Origin
The Acorus 'Argenteostriatus', also known as sweet flag, is a native plant of North America, covering a significant area in the eastern United States. In its wild environment, it grows along muddy riverbanks, in swampy soils and in water-rich areas.
Characteristics
This grass species has long, evergreen leaves with striking cream-coloured edges in white and yellow that emit a strong sweet scent when crushed. This hardy plant can grow to a height of 0.5-1 meter and expands through underground rhizomes. The Acorus 'Argenteostriatus' blooms in late spring and early summer, producing small yellow flowers.
Care
The Acorus 'Argenteostriatus' is a low-maintenance plant and prefers damp to wet, well-draining soil. The plant thrives best in full to partial sun. Although this species can survive drier conditions, it benefits most from regular watering, especially during dry periods. As a marsh plant, it can be successfully grown in shallow water, such as along the edges of a pond or in a rainwater collector.
