Origin
The Alcea rosea, also known as the Chartreuse Double Rose, is a plant species originally from Southwest China. Over time, the plant has spread to different parts of the world, including Europe and North America. They are primarily found in areas with a temperate climate.
Characteristics
The Alcea rosea Chart. Double Rose is known for its long stems, which can reach heights of up to 2 metres. These stems produce romantically shaped double flowers, usually in various shades of pink, but white, red and purple are also common. The leaves of the plant are heart-shaped and have a grey-green to dark green colour. The blooming period of this plant species runs from June to September.
Care
The Alcea rosea Chart. Double Rose thrives best in full sun and requires well-draining soil to grow optimally. The plant needs regular watering, but it's important to prevent the soil from becoming too wet as this can lead to root rot. It is advisable to remove dead flowers promptly to stimulate new blooming. As preparation for winter, the plant can be pruned back, this stimulates growth in the following year.
