Origin
The Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin', also known as Glossy Photinia, is a hybrid plant species. This species originated from a cross between two Photinia species, namely P. glabra and P. serulata. The exact origin of the Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' is unknown, but the plant is named after the plant collector John Fraser. He had a strong interest in the Flora on the American continent.

Characteristics
The Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' can grow up to four meters high, but is often pruned down to a compact shrub. This plant has glossy, leather-like leaves that colour deep red when they are young. Over time, the colour of the leaves changes to dark green. In the spring, the Photinia blooms with white, fragrant flowers, after which red berries appear on the plant.

Care
The Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' is an easy plant to care for. It grows best on well-drained soil in a place with lots of sunlight. To maintain the characteristic red colour of the leaves, it is important to prune regularly. This can be done in the spring or in the summer.
