Origin
Ceanothus 'Blue Mound' is a cultivar within the Ceanothus genus. The plant originates from North America, where various Ceanothus species occur. 'Blue Mound' was developed through selection and breeding within this genus. In Europe, this cultivar is mainly used as an ornamental plant.
Characteristics
Ceanothus 'Blue Mound' is a compact, evergreen shrub with a rounded growth habit. The plant usually reaches a height and width of between 100 and 150 centimetres. Its dark green leaves are small, glossy, and leathery. In spring, abundant clusters of small, bright blue flowers appear. The blossom attracts bees and other pollinators.
Care
Ceanothus 'Blue Mound' grows best in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. The plant is moderately hardy and tolerates light frost. It is important not to let the soil become too wet, as Ceanothus is susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Pruning is usually carried out directly after flowering to maintain its shape.
