Origin
Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens originates from the western parts of North America, mainly California. In its native habitat, it grows on rocky slopes and at the edges of open woodlands. It belongs to the family Rhamnaceae. This variety is commonly used as ground cover in temperate climates.
Characteristics
Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens is a low-growing, evergreen shrub. It typically reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm, with a spreading growth habit. The leaves are small, glossy, and dark green in colour. In spring, the plant produces abundant clusters of vibrant blue flowers.
Care
This plant tolerates dry conditions and prefers well-drained soil. Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens does best in a sunny to lightly shaded location. Pruning is possible, but is generally only done to a limited extent due to its natural growth habit. The plant has moderate resistance to severe frost.
