Astilbe arendsii 'Amerika' is part of the Arendsii hybrids, a group of ornamental plants that resulted from crosses between various Astilbe species. These hybrids were cultivated by the German breeder Georg Arends in the early twentieth century. The plant has its origin in horticultural practices in Europe, particularly in Germany. Astilbe species are originally native to East Asia and North America.

The plumes are finely branched, giving them an airy and elegant appearance.
