Origin
Lewisia cotyledon originates from the western regions of North America, mainly California and Oregon. In its natural habitat, the plant grows on rocky slopes and in mountainous areas. It belongs to the Montiaceae family and can be found in the wild at elevations up to 2300 metres.
Characteristics
Lewisia cotyledon is an evergreen perennial with a compact growth habit. The leaves are fleshy, glossy, and form a dense rosette. During the flowering period, usually in spring and early summer, clusters of flowers appear on upright stems. The flowers range in colour from white to pink, orange and sometimes yellow, often with stripes or lines.
Care
Lewisia cotyledon requires well-draining, preferably sandy or stony soil. The plant thrives best in a sunny position. Excessive moisture can cause root rot. Watering is only necessary during prolonged periods of drought.
