Origin
Buddleja davidii 'Butterfly Candy Little Ruby' belongs to the figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). The species Buddleja davidii, from which this variety is derived, originates from China. 'Butterfly Candy Little Ruby' was developed as an ornamental plant for use in gardens and parks. The cultivar was selected for its compact growth habit and striking blooms.

Characteristics
This plant is a compact dwarf Buddleja and reaches a maximum height of about 60 centimetres. The leaves are elongated, green, and slightly hairy. The flower spikes are bright red-purple in colour and have a light fragrance. The flowering period is during the summer months and is both extended and abundant. Buddleja davidii 'Butterfly Candy Little Ruby' attracts butterflies.

Care
This cultivar prefers a position in full sun and grows best in well-drained soil. Buddleja davidii 'Butterfly Candy Little Ruby' tolerates moderate drought. Pruning can be carried out in early spring to keep the plant compact. It is reasonably hardy and suitable for use in borders and planters. Regular removal of faded flowers will encourage further blooming.
