Origin
Carex morrowii 'Goldband' is a cultivar of Carex morrowii, originally from Japan. This ornamental grass-like plant is part of the sedge family (Cyperaceae). 'Goldband' has been selected for its striking leaf colour and shape. It is widely used in gardens and as ground cover due to its decorative value.
Characteristics
Carex morrowii 'Goldband' is an evergreen, clump-forming plant. The leaves are narrow, elongated, and characterised by a yellow margin with a green central stripe. The maximum height is around 30 to 40 centimetres. The plant produces small, inconspicuous flower spikes in spring. This cultivar retains its leaf colour throughout the year.
Care
Carex morrowii 'Goldband' grows best in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. The plant tolerates both full sun and partial shade but develops best with sufficient light. Regular watering promotes healthy growth, especially during dry periods. Removing old leaves in spring keeps the plant neat in appearance. It is reasonably hardy.
