Origin
Acer palmatum 'Shaina' is a cultivar originating from Japan. This variety is part of the maple family, Aceraceae. It was selected in the twentieth century as a mutation of Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood'. The species naturally grows in forests and mountainous regions.

Characteristics
Acer palmatum 'Shaina' is a compact, slow-growing shrub or small tree. Its leaves are hand-shaped, deeply cut, and maintain a reddish-purple colour throughout the growing season. In autumn, the foliage turns a vibrant crimson red. The plant typically reaches a height of 1 to 2 metres. Its dense canopy gives the cultivar a rounded appearance.

Care
Acer palmatum 'Shaina' prefers a sheltered position with filtered sunlight. The soil should be well-draining and kept lightly moist. Regular watering is recommended during dry periods, but waterlogging must be avoided. The plant does not tolerate heavy pruning; light formative pruning is possible after the growing season. This cultivar is hardy in temperate climate zones.
