Origin
Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' belongs to the Japanese maples and originates from Japan. This cultivar was developed in the early twentieth century. Characteristics
Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' is a dwarf form of Japanese maple with a broadly spreading, cascading habit. The leaves are finely dissected and deep purple-red in colour, turning bright red in autumn. The plant reaches a height of approximately 1.5 to 2 metres. The bark is smooth and dark in colour, providing additional ornamental value during winter.
Care
Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' grows best in a position with partial shade and a moist, well-drained soil. The plant does not tolerate prolonged drought or waterlogging. Annual pruning is not necessary, but can be carried out to maintain its shape. A sheltered spot offers protection from strong winds and late night frosts.
