Origin
The Abies koreana 'Kohouts Icebreaker', also known as Korean fir, has its origin on the Korean Peninsula. This specific cultivar was first introduced by Richard Kohout, a well-known plant grower, who found and isolated the plant because of its unique characteristics.

Characteristics
The Korean fir is a slow-growing evergreen conifer with a compact growth form. It has very distinctive, curled needles that are silver-white on the bottom, giving the plant its general silvery-blue appearance. It produces beautiful, purple cones even at a young age, which is rare for most firs.

Care
The Abies koreana 'Kohouts Icebreaker' requires minimal maintenance. It grows best in a sunny to semi-shady spot in well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Although fairly drought-tolerant once established, it needs regular water in the first years after planting. Occasional pruning is beneficial in maintaining the plant's shape and size. It does not have specific pest or disease problems.
