Origin
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is a cultivar of Lawson Cypress, originally native to the western regions of North America. This conifer belongs to the Cupressaceae family. The species was introduced to Europe in the 19th century.

Characteristics
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is a narrowly upright, columnar conifer. The needles are blue-grey in colour and remain on the plant throughout the year. Its growth habit is compact with dense branching. Mature specimens can reach a height of around 6 metres. The bark is grey-brown and peels off in scales.

Care
This cultivar grows best in a location with full sun or partial shade. The plant tolerates various soil types, provided the soil is well-draining. Regular pruning is possible to maintain its shape. Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is very hardy. Shelter from strong winds is beneficial.
