Origin
Arundo donax 'Aureovariegata' is a cultivar of giant reed, originally native to the Mediterranean region and parts of Asia. The species naturally grows in moist areas, along rivers and water edges. Arundo donax has been introduced to many parts of the world for its ornamental value and practical uses. The plant belongs to the grass family (Poaceae).

Characteristics
Arundo donax 'Aureovariegata' is a robust, hardy ornamental grass with striking yellow and white striped leaves. The plant typically reaches a height of between two and four metres. The leaves are long, narrow, and have a rough texture. In late summer, plume-like flower heads may appear, although flowering is rare in temperate climates. The stems are thick and upright.

Care

In cold winters, the above-ground parts of the plant may freeze, but it will regrow from the rhizome in spring. Cutting back the plant annually in early spring encourages healthy growth.
