Origin
Hebe vernicosa originates from New Zealand. The species grows there in mountainous areas and on rocky slopes. Its natural range is characterised by a cool and humid climate. The plant belongs to the Plantaginaceae family and is also referred to as Veronica vernicosa.
Characteristics
Hebe vernicosa is a compact, evergreen shrub. The plant typically reaches a height of 50 to 60 cm. The leaves are small, leathery, and glossy green in colour. In summer, white to pale pink flower spikes appear, giving the plant an attractive display. The inflorescences are notable for their dense, upright flowers.
Care
Hebe vernicosa grows best in well-drained soil. For optimal growth, sufficient light is necessary, although direct sunlight is not required. The plant tolerates light frost and is therefore suitable for a temperate climate. Regular, moderate watering is preferred, but prolonged wet conditions should be avoided. Pruning helps to maintain the compact shape.
