Origin
Campsis tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' is a hybrid between Campsis radicans and Campsis grandiflora, belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. This climbing plant was originally developed in Europe, probably in the 19th century.
Characteristics
Campsis tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' is a fast-growing, deciduous climber that can reach a height of 8 to 10 metres. In summer, striking trumpet-shaped flowers in orange-red shades appear, usually from July to September. The green, pinnate leaves are composed of 7 to 11 leaflets. The climbing shoots attach themselves to walls and fences using aerial roots.
Care
This plant requires a sunny and sheltered position. Campsis tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' thrives in well-drained, fertile soil. Regular pruning encourages flowering and keeps the growth in check. Overwintering in temperate climates is generally possible, as the plant is reasonably hardy.
