Origin
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Pia' is a cultivar belonging to the hydrangea family, originating from East Asia. This species is mainly found in the wild in Japan and China. ‘Pia’ was developed through selection and breeding within the horticultural assortment. Since the late twentieth century, the cultivar has been used as an ornamental plant in Europe and North America.

Characteristics
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Pia' is a compact, low-growing shrub with a maximum height of around 60 cm. The plant features rounded, full flower heads composed of small, bright pink flowers. The leaves are dark green, oval, and have a serrated edge. The flowering period takes place mainly in the summer months, from June through to September.

Care
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Pia' thrives best in moist, well-drained soil. The plant prefers a position in partial shade to full sun, but does not tolerate prolonged drought. Regular watering is necessary to maintain healthy growth. Thirsty roots can cause the leaves to wilt and flowering to decrease. Light pruning after flowering is possible to keep the shape compact.
