Origin
Acer campestre is native to Europe and parts of Western Asia. The species naturally occurs in deciduous forests, hedgerows, and woodland edges. In the Netherlands and Belgium, it is widespread. It is often planted as an avenue or boundary tree.

Characteristics
This is a deciduous tree which typically reaches a height of 10 to 15 metres. The leaves are palmately lobed with five rounded lobes and turn yellow in autumn. The bark is grey-brown and often becomes fissured with age. In spring, small yellow-green flowers appear in clusters. The fruit consists of a pair of winged nuts known as samaras.

Care
Acer campestre thrives best in nutrient-rich, moist, and calcareous soils. The plant tolerates both sun and partial shade. It generally responds well to regular pruning. Acer campestre is resistant to air pollution and wind. The species is hardy and relatively insensitive to disease.
