Origin
Brunnera macrophylla originates from the forests of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. In its natural habitat, this plant grows in moist, shady environments. The genus Brunnera belongs to the borage family (Boraginaceae).
Characteristics
Brunnera macrophylla is a perennial with large, heart-shaped leaves that are often silvery in colour. The plant has strong leaf structure and forms dense clumps. In spring, small, sky-blue flowers appear that resemble those of forget-me-nots. The plant reaches a height of approximately 30 to 40 centimetres.
Care
Brunnera macrophylla grows best in moist, humus-rich soil. A position in partial or full shade is well tolerated. The plant can withstand cold winters and generally does not require extra protection. Removing old leaves annually encourages the formation of new growth.
