Origin
Lavandula angustifolia 'Arctic Snow' is a cultivar of common lavender, originally from the Mediterranean region. The species Lavandula angustifolia has been cultivated in Europe for centuries. 'Arctic Snow' was developed for its unusual flower colour. This variety arose through selection within the existing Lavandula angustifolia population.
Characteristics
Lavandula angustifolia 'Arctic Snow' is notable for its white flowers, in contrast to the usual purple colour. The plant is evergreen and generally grows to around 40 to 50 centimetres in height. The leaves are narrow, grey-green and aromatic. Flowering typically occurs from June to August. The plant emits a characteristic fragrance.
Care
This lavender variety grows best in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Excess moisture in the soil is poorly tolerated. Pruning after flowering encourages compact growth. The plant is reasonably hardy and copes well with dry conditions. Feeding is generally not necessary.
