Origin
Astilbe arendsii 'Spinell' belongs to the Arendsii hybrids, a popular group within the genus Astilbe. This plant was developed through hybridisation carried out in the early twentieth century by the German breeder Georg Arends. Its origin lies in gardens and not in the wild. Astilbe arendsii 'Spinell' was developed and distributed in Europe.

Characteristics
Astilbe arendsii 'Spinell' is a perennial known for its upright, feathery flower plumes. The flowers are deep red and appear between June and August. The leaves are pinnate and dark green, creating an attractive contrast to the blooms. The plant reaches a height of around 80 to 100 centimetres. Its growth habit is bushy and compact.

Care
Astilbe arendsii 'Spinell' thrives best in a position with partial shade to full shade. Moist, humus-rich and well-drained soil is ideal for optimal growth. The plant requires sufficient water, especially during dry periods. Regular removal of spent flower heads will encourage flowering. In winter, the above-ground parts die back, after which the plant regrows in spring.
