Origin
The Bergenia 'Bressingham White' is a cultivar developed through the breeding programme of the English nursery Blooms of Bressingham. The plant belongs to the genus Bergenia, which has its origin in Central and East Asia. This species was introduced in the twentieth century with the aim of producing ornamental and hardy garden plants. Bergenia 'Bressingham White' has been cultivated for its striking white flowers and vigorous growth.
Characteristics
Bergenia 'Bressingham White' is an evergreen perennial with large, dark green, leathery leaves. In spring, pure white flowers appear on sturdy stems, arranged in clusters. The plant reaches a height of approximately 30 to 40 centimetres. In autumn, the leaves may sometimes take on a reddish hue.
Care
The plant thrives in a position from partial shade to full sun. A humus-rich and well-drained soil encourages healthy development. Bergenia 'Bressingham White' is highly frost-resistant and can tolerate temperatures well below freezing. Pruning is generally unnecessary, apart from removing old leaves if desired. Regular watering is only required during prolonged dry spells.
