Origin
The Pilea peperomioides, also known as the Chinese Money Plant, originated in the Yunnan province of China. This species was discovered in this region by Norwegian missionary Agnar Espegren in the first half of the 20th century. Through him, the plant has spread to other parts of the world and is now a popular houseplant.

Characteristics
The Pilea peperomioides can be recognised by its characteristic round leaves that grow on long stems. It has a compact growth habit, meaning that the stems grow closely together, forming a dense crown of leaves. The colour of the leaves is usually dark green and shiny. A unique feature of this plant is its ability to produce 'baby plants', small plants that grow out of the mother plant.

Care
In terms of the care for the Pilea peperomioides, it is important to place the plant in a light location, but out of direct sunlight. The plant likes a consistent water supply, but it is particularly important that excess water can drain to prevent root rot. To keep the leaves shiny, it is advisable to dust the plant occasionally. The care also includes the removal and repotting of the 'baby plants' so they can grow independently.
