Origin
The Episcia, originates from the tropical regions of Central and South America. This evergreen, creeping perennial plant belongs to the Gesneriaceae family. It primarily grows in rainforests and humid mountain ranges.
Characteristics
The Episcia is characterised by its colourful and striking leaves, which range from green to silvery grey, and sometimes display variegated patterns. The flowers, which can appear in various shades of red, orange or yellow, are small and tubular. The plant has the unique characteristic of being able to bloom all year round, depending on the care and conditions.
Care
For optimal growth, the Episcia requires a warm and humid environment with a temperature between 15 and 29 degrees Celsius. The plant prefers a light spot, but not in direct sunlight. The soil must be well-draining and rich in organic material to prevent root rot. In addition, regular watering is necessary, but the plant does not tolerate excess water well. The leaves can get sunburned in extreme dryness and the plant can die if the soil dries out completely.
