Origin
The Philodendron 'McDowell' is a hybrid originating from the Araceae family. It was first developed in the United States, in the greenhouses of Steve Lucas' Exotic Rainforest, for the exotic plant collectors' market.

Characteristics
The Philodendron 'McDowell' is characterised by its large, shiny, heart-shaped green leaf that starts with bronze hues and matures to a dark green colour. They have a very sturdy stem structure which enables them to grow upright, unlike many other Philodendrons which are climbers. The leaves can grow up to 75 cm long, giving the plant an impressive presence.

Care
The McDowell Philodendron thrives best in average to high humidity and moderate temperatures. It can cope with a variety of light conditions, but flourishes best in indirect, bright light. Good drainage is essential for this plant to prevent root rot. This plant is not a fast grower and requires little pruning, just occasionally to remove dead leaves and maintain shape.
