Origin
The Asplenium nidus 'Crispy Wave', sometimes known as the Bird's Nest Fern, has its origin in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. It belongs to the spleenwort family, a group of about 700 different types of ferns. The environment in which this plant grows is naturally humid and warm, which reflects in the care requirements of the 'Crispy Wave'.
Characteristics
The Asplenium nidus 'Crispy Wave' is characterised by its unique, serrated leaves that have the shape of waves. These leaves are glossy and bright green in colour. The plant can grow to an impressive size, with leaves that can become up to 1 meter long. The 'Crispy Wave' does not have flowers and grows in a distinctive nest shape, hence its nickname the Bird's Nest Fern.
Care
When caring for the Asplenium nidus 'Crispy Wave', it is important to mimic the conditions of its natural habitat. This means that the plant prefers a humid environment and a lot of indirect light, but no direct sunlight. The soil should be well-draining and the plant thrives well at an average room temperature between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. However, over-watering should be avoided at all times, as this can cause root rot.
