Origin
Oxalis vulcanicola 'Sunset Velvet' is a cultivar belonging to the genus Oxalis. Oxalis vulcanicola is naturally found in volcanic regions of South America. 'Sunset Velvet' was selected for its striking foliage colour and ornamental value. The plant is primarily used as an ornamental, both indoors and outdoors.

Characteristics
This plant is notable for its velvety leaves with a distinctive yellow-green to bronze foliage colour. With adequate light, the leaves can develop deeper orange-red to purple hues. Oxalis vulcanicola 'Sunset Velvet' has a ground-covering growth habit and forms small clumps. During the flowering period, the plant produces small yellow flowers. Its growth habit is compact and low-growing.

Care
The plant appreciates a well-draining, slightly moist potting soil. Oxalis vulcanicola 'Sunset Velvet' grows best with sufficient light, but should be protected from prolonged, intense midday sun. The species can cope with light drought, but prolonged waterlogged conditions are poorly tolerated. Fertilisation can be applied sparingly during the growing season.
