DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Aspidistra elatior, also known as the cast-iron plant, originates from the eastern parts of the Himalayas and South China. It primarily grows in the shady forests and valleys. This plant was extremely popular during the Victorian era and has since then spread across the globe.

Characteristics
The Aspidistra elatior is a hardy, perennial plant with wide, green, leathery leaves. The leaves are long and narrow, growing directly from the ground, appearing as if they grow in clumps. The plant grows slowly and can reach a height of approximately 60 centimetres. Interestingly, this plant rarely blooms and when it does, the flowers are minuscule, dark purple spores close to the ground.

Care
The Aspidistra elatior is an easy to care for plant that isn't demanding. The plant prefers shady or partially shady spots, and can even thrive in very little light. It requires little water, only when the soil feels dry. Overwatering and overfeeding should be avoided, as this could damage the plant. The plant is resistant to many pests and diseases, contributing to its reputation as a 'cast-iron' plant.
