Origin
The Calathea musaica, also known as the Network plant, originates from South America. The plant grows in humid and warm primeval forest areas, particularly in Brazil. Here, the plant is characterised by its enchanting appearance and its unique ability to move its leaves from sunrise to sunset. This phenomenon, also known as nyctinasty, translates into the plant 'sleeping' during the night.

Characteristics
One of the most noticeable characteristics of the Calathea musaica is the intricate pattern on its leaves that resembles a mosaic, hence the name 'musiaca'. The plant has bright green, widespread leaves with fine light green to yellow lines that form a network or framework. The plant can reach a height of about 90 centimetres. Throughout the day, the plant changes positions, unfolding its leaves at sunrise and closing them again at sunset.

Care
The Calathea musaica requires a medium to high level of humidity and performs best in indirect sunlight. It is essential that the plant is never exposed to direct sunlight as this can burn its leaves. The plant needs regular watering during the growing season, the soil should be kept moist but not soaked. Temperature is also a critical factor in care: the Calathea musaica prefers warm temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Below 15 degrees, the plant may have trouble growing. In the winter months, watering can be reduced, but the humidity level still needs to be sufficient.
